Request a basement water inspection
If water is coming in right now or the sump has quit, call. For a crack you've been watching, an old pump or a basement that's damp but not flooding, send a request and a local company will call you back.
Before you call
It helps to have:
- Your address, so the request reaches a company that covers your town or village
- Where the water appears: floor edge, a crack, a window well, the sump, or just dampness
- When it happens: every rain, only during spring thaw, or when the river is high
- Your foundation if you know it: poured, block, brick or fieldstone
- Whether the basement is finished, and whether there's a radon or vapor mitigation pipe in the floor
River or creek water coming in? That's flooding, not seepage. Follow Broome County and city emergency guidance first, stay out of water that could reach outlets or appliances, and shut off basement power only from a dry spot.
